In historic change, Virginia voters approve bipartisan commission to handle political redistricting
Until 2021, Virginia was one the majority of U.S. states that relied on the partisan state legislature to draw their electoral districts. In November 2021, Virginians voted to replace the partisan gerrymandering process with an Independent Redistricting Commission, tasked with drawing fairer, more competitive, and more representative maps. Unite & Renew backed Fair Maps VA, the campaign team who built, ran, and won this successful campaign to end gerrymandering.
